I looooove to travel and will keep adding information to this page.
Affordable Room & Apartment Rental Resources
We usually rent apartments when we travel, whether in the U.S., Mexico, or Europe. They offer us independence, flexibility, the option of splitting costs with traveling companions, plus the ability to eat more healthfully and cheaply by cooking in sometimes.
Airbnb is my go-to website for finding affordable private rooms, whole apartments, and homes to rent at home and abroad. The website is very easy to use, unlike *cough* VRBO. We’ve rented both short-term and long-term (4 weeks) through airbnb in Austin (TX), South Padre Island (TX), Chappell Hill (TX), Prague, Berlin, and more! (Click the links to see each apartment; we’d recommend them all.) You’ll find both normal people offering up their apartment for the weekend while they’re away on holiday as well as those who make a business of renting out multiple flats and properties. New listings with only a couple of reviews can be an absolute steal, and because so many airbnb hosts are less, shall we say, business-savvy than those on other websites, they often don’t inflate holiday rates. We booked a huge apartment in Berlin at New Year’s (!!!) for less than $50 a night.
Have you heard of “slow travel?” We’re big fans. SlowTrav.com describes it as a “deeper type of travel by staying in one place longer and seeing the things that are close to you. It is an easier, simpler and slower way of traveling.” Learn more and get all kinds of great tips, reviews, and resources on their website. This is where I got started with apartment rentals.
